Dreams in the Making Since Day One
For over 30 years, families across the River Region have trusted the Armory to help their kids flip, tumble, and grow — right in the heart of Alabama's Capitol City.
A Montgomery Tradition, Built One Cartwheel at a Time
Armory Athletics has proudly served Montgomery and the tri-state area for more than 30 years. What started as a hometown gymnastics program has grown into a full athletics center — with preschool gymnastics, recreational classes, tumbling, ninja, and a competitive team that carries the Armory name to meets across the Southeast.
Through it all, one thing hasn't changed: every class is taught by experienced coaches who follow USA Gymnastics safety guidelines, in an atmosphere where kids are known by name and cheered at every turn.
We're also the proud host of the Blue Gray Invitational and Winter Blue Gray competitions, welcoming gymnasts and their families to Montgomery every season.
Our Mission & Philosophy
Mission Statement
Our goal at Armory Athletics is to develop each individual's gymnastics potential in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Using specific gymnastics progressions and a highly trained staff, each gymnast learns the correct fundamentals and basic skills to progress to whatever level he or she desires.
As instructors, we use the sport of gymnastics to help every child gain greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image.
Team Philosophy
We place athletes in a safe, positive, and productive environment — providing the mental and physical discipline needed for competition within a framework of positive reinforcement and encouragement.
Learning to be comfortable in a competitive situation is a positive experience and adds to a child's development.
A Historic Armory, Reborn for Young Athletes
Our home — and our name — comes from the historic armory building at 1018 Madison Avenue in downtown Montgomery. Where the building once served the community in uniform, it now echoes with the sounds of kids learning their first cartwheels, sticking their first landings, and cheering each other on.
The Armory is an Art Deco-style, 34,406-square-foot former U.S. National Guard armory, renovated to provide comprehensive art, music, dance, and gymnastics instruction. Today it houses Armory Athletics, the Alabama Dance Theatre, and The Learning Arts Center — the City of Montgomery's community arts center.
The building was later expanded with three gyms built to house our Armory Athletics programs as part of City of Montgomery Parks & Recreation Sports Division.

Great classes start with well-trained coaches. Behind the scenes, our staff train year-round — so your child learns the right way, the safe way, every time.
Safety-Certified Staff
Every rec instructor completes Alabama's required CoachSafely safety-education course, and our classes follow USA Gymnastics safety guidelines.
In-House Training Sessions
Our coaches train together in regular staff sessions on spotting, shaping, and technique — and every session is recorded so new coaches learn from them too.
Professional Coach Education
The whole staff studies a professional coach-education library — event drills, class management, and coaching the whole athlete, from preschool through team.
A Plan for Every Class
No winging it: every class is taught from a prepared lesson plan built on step-by-step skill progressions — plus wellness and Safe Sport training for every coach.
